PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The research goal of the “Resilience at the Margins” project is to develop a evidence-base and an associated evidence-based decision-support tool that can be used by policymakers and national institutions to prioritise and target climate-smart agricultural interventions towards meeting the needs and strengthening the climate change resilience of the most vulnerable and marginalised rural communities and households in Vietnam. The research goal will be achieved via 7 research objectives, each of which has a dedicated workpackage.
Research Objective 1: To identify and geospatially map the communities and households across Yen Bai province (and other provinces in Vietnam) which are the most economically vulnerable and marginalised.
Research Objective 2: To identify, predict and geospatially map of economically vulnerable/marginalised communities and households across Yen Bai province (and other provinces in Vietnam) which are most vulnerable to climate change impacts to 2030 and 2050.
Research Objective 3: Using participatory field survey approaches, to prioritise and rank Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) techniques and innovations that can strengthen the climate change resilience of the most vulnerable/marginalised communities and households across Yen Bai province (and other provinces in Vietnam).
Research Objective 4: To use the project Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (proWEAI) to assess the gender empowerment impact of the prioritised Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) techniques and innovations on different cohorts of vulnerable/marginalised communities and households across Yen Bai province (and other provinces in Vietnam).
Research Objective 5: To use participatory photo-voice visual ethnography approaches to identify and rank the climate change vulnerability priorities of the most marginalised in rural communities in Vietnam.
Research Objective 6: To integrate the data sources and rapid participatory survey techniques into a geospatial DSS prototype system for pilot testing and refinement with Yen Bai provincial institutions prior to open-access dissemination.
Research Objective 7: To map policy routes and scenarios for the integration and adaptation and scaling out of the geospatial DSS system for targeting CSA techniques and innovations towards the furthest behind in rural areas in Vietnam.
