On 01 July 2026, the Food Loss Assessment team joined a partner meeting at the Embassy of Denmark in Hanoi to share a concise update on the data, field observations, and preliminary evidence collected so far under the Food Loss Assessment.

The meeting brought together key partners from the Embassy of Denmark, the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Danish Veterinary, Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency, IFRO, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of International Cooperation, VAFIS, and VNUA. It provided an important opportunity for the assessment team to review progress, discuss initial findings, and prepare for the two consultation workshops scheduled in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

For the pork food loss component, Mr. Bùi Minh Trí and Ms. Bùi Phạm Nhật Linh participated in person at the Embassy of Denmark, while Dr. Bùi Lê Vinh, the research team leader, joined online. Mr. Bùi Minh Trí presented a brief progress update on the preliminary data and field evidence collected from the upstream pork value chain, covering pig production, transport/intermediary actors, and slaughterhouses supplying the Hanoi market.

The update highlighted that the first round of fieldwork had generated useful evidence for understanding where food loss may occur in the pork chain. Preliminary findings suggest that farms are currently the clearest direct food-loss hotspot, while transport and slaughter may involve less visible forms of loss, such as live-weight shrinkage, stress, quality reduction, abscess trimming, and downgraded meat. The team also emphasized the need to strengthen measurement in the next wave of data collection.

The information shared by the pork team attracted strong interest from the Danish and Vietnamese partners. The Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries noted the importance of the progress report and acknowledged the team’s efforts in collecting meaningful field evidence within a short period of time.

At the end of the meeting, the Danish and Vietnamese partners provided valuable guidance to help the team further improve the progress report and prepare for the upcoming consultation workshops. The discussion helped sharpen the focus of the next stage of work, especially on transport, slaughterhouse measurement, and practical recommendations for reducing food loss in the pork value chain.

The meeting was an important step in aligning the assessment team, policy partners, and technical experts before the wider stakeholder consultations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
