How can better management of soil, water, biodiversity, carbon and landscapes generate benefits that are not only ecologically meaningful, but also measurable, prioritizable and investable?
CRAFS is pleased to share Version 1.0 of the AIRE Framework – Agroecology-to-Investment Readiness for Ecosystem Services, developed by Dr. Bui Le Vinh.
AIRE addresses a persistent “missing middle” between nature-positive practice and investment. Agroecology, climate-smart agriculture and nature-based solutions can improve natural capital and generate valuable ecosystem services, yet these benefits do not automatically translate into credible investment propositions. Evidence may be incomplete, beneficiaries dispersed, spatial priorities unclear, institutions fragmented, or financing mechanisms poorly aligned with ecological outcomes.
AIRE provides a practical architecture for bridging this gap. It connects natural-capital condition → nature-positive management → ecosystem services → evidence and prioritization → investment readiness → resilient productive systems, while integrating spatial analysis, MRV, institutional capacity, incentives, markets and finance.
Designed as a conceptual and screening-level diagnostic framework, AIRE can support project design, readiness assessment, investment prioritization and early-stage investment preparation across agrifood systems, landscapes, watersheds, restoration and coastal contexts.
This first working draft (Version 1.0) is being shared for application, discussion and further development. Future versions will evolve through practitioner feedback, empirical testing and continued engagement with emerging natural-capital and nature-finance approaches.
